Terror-free Investing
Throughout the United States, organizations and individuals are calling on corporations and banks to stop doing business in Iran and for divestment from companies that continue to do business there. The divestment effort covers the spectrum from persuading large public and private pension funds to sell their investments in implicated companies to educating individual investors about the commercial involvement of publicly traded corporations in Iran. The movement's two goals are to economic pressure on Iran and inform investors of the indirect links between their money and the Iranian regime. For more detailed information, please see the following sites and relevant articles.
Missouri State Treasurer's Office: Missouri State Treasurer Sarah Steelman conducted the first public-sector anti-terror divestment with the Missouri Investment Trust. See the Fact Sheet on their divestment process.
DivestTerror.org: DivestTerror.org offers information on the "Dirty Dozen" major corporations of the 400 publicly traded companies that do business in Iran or other state-supporters of terrorism, as well as information on state pension fund holdings in those companies, and background on the successful anti-Apartheid divestment movement.
